Now that it's home safe and sound, I can finally give it a good going over. I had looked it over when I first saw the car, but not as good as you can do when you get it home on your property. The first thing I noticed after looking at the engine was that it had a Q-Jet (translate: junk) carburetor. I drove it to work a day or two and it ran like crap. With it running like crap, I came to find that carburetor was just barely sitting on the engine. Trying to tighten it up, I found that the screws were stripped, so off with the old, and on with the new! This new Holley should make things much better.
